Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Exquisitely Molded Butter Crock by Whites of Utica featuring a Stag Hunt.
Made between 1890 and 1907 when Whites made its fabulous molded stoneware, this beauty features a Two Hunters with their Trophy Stag on One Side and Two Stags Who Escaped on the Other. Detailed trees and grass provide the background. The lid repeats the grass background along with four additional stags. The base measures 5" tall and 8" wide.
There are six sizes to this series: 1 to 6 pound. This is the No. 3 which is difficult to find, and this one even has very sharp details and mold lines.
Excellent Condition. The base has two small and narrow chips inside the rim (1/8", 1/4"), and the lid has a flat 1/2" chip on the outside of the seating ring on the underside of the lid. No hairlines, cracks, stains or restoration on either base or lid. The base is slightly out-of-round in the making and the lid has a 1/2" chip on the outer raised ring on the top of the lid in the making and glazed over.
