Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this 3 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "Whites Utica."
This is a mark of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , pp. 70-71).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Running Fantail Bird on a Branch Decoration Executed with a Slip Cup. This was one of White's signature decorations. Its simplicity is rivaled only by its beauty. This particular bird has eight distinct tail feathers. Measures 10 3/4" tall and 11" wide across the top.
Fair to Good Condition. Small chips around the rim, a couple chips on each handle, two chips on the underside at the edge (1/2", 1 1/2"), and some staining from use. No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Bubbling in the thickest part of the cobalt in the making.
