Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Whites Utica."
This is a work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery in Utica, New York from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, American Stoneware, pp. 69-70).
Dating about 1870, this beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Pine or Christmas Tree made with a Single Pour of a Slip Cup. This is one of White's signature decorations and a perennial favorite with collectors. This particular tree is bigger and bolder than most. Stands 10 3/4" tall.
Good Condition. A 3/8" chip on the left side of the spout, some wear around the middle, staining at the very bottom, and two tight hairlines near the bottom of the handle (closeup). Handle is secure. No chips, body hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
