Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Stoneware Jar stamped "Whites Binghamton."
This is work of William Roberts, son-in-law of Noah White of Whites Utica Pottery. He founded a branch of the family business in Binghamton in 1848 and ran it until 1888 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 71)
This beauty features a Large Jar Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Huge Dotted Bird in Bright Cobalt. The bird is 10 1/2" from the tip of his beak to the tip of his tail feathers! He sports a dotted breas and many tail feathers. He stands on an elaborate branch. Very imposing. Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some light staining. That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
