Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Preserve Jar made and stamped by "W. Hart, Ogdensburgh, N.Y."
This is the mark of William Hart who ran the family pottery in Ogdensburgh from 1858 until he died in 1869 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 74-75).
This beauty sports a Clear Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Bold Floral Executed with a Slip Cup in Rich and Shiny Cobalt. The floral has 13 Leaves and a blowsom with Center Eye and 10 petals. The cobalt is so think you can feel it with you hand. Stands 10 3/4" tall.
Good Condition. Three small chips inside the rim (1/4" to 1/2"), a faint 2" hairline from the rim to the left handle (closeup), a 1/2" chip on the right handle, and some staining from use. No base chips or restoration.
