Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Tiny and Uncommon 1/2 Gallon Ovoid Jar Made and Stamped by "Goodwin & Webster."
This is the work of Horace Goodwin and Mack Webster who ran the pottery in Hartford, Connecticut from 1831-1840 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 60-61).
This beauty features the Early Ovoid Form, Inscribed Shoulder, Side Handles, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Cobalt Wash at the Handle Terminals. Stands only 8 1/8" tall. Not sure why a jar this small needs handles!
I have never seen a jar this small by this maker and rarely by any maker from this period.
Excellent Condition. A 1/4" chip on the rim and light staining at the base. That's it! No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
