    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fantastic 8 Gallon Stoneware Jar made by "T. F. Reppert, Greensboro, PA."

     

    This is the work of Thomas Reppert who took over the pottery of James Hamilton in 1880 and ran it from 1880-1884 and again solo after 1890 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp 157-58).

     

    This beauty features a Large Size, Tooled Rim, Applied Handles, and Top to Bottom Freehand and Stenciled Decoration.  A straight and squiggle stripe top and bottom frame a Very Large Federal Eagle with Shield Breastplate Holding a Banner with "Eagle Pottery" in his Beak (another moniker of the Reppert pottery).  The company advertising and the capacity number are positioned below.  Complete and crisp stencil in darker cobalt.  Attractive light gray glaze.  Pleasing contrast.  Stands 19 1/2" tall. 

     

    Excellent Condition. Some scattered light staining and a single 1" vertical hairline on the back bottom that moves left 6", right 3", and under 2" (closeup).   Otherwise as made.
