Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 5 Gallon Churn made by "T. F. Reppert, Successor to Jas. Hamilton and Co., Greensboro, PA."
Reppert bought out the James Hamilton pottery in 1880, and after running it with a partner, ran it alone from 1884-1890.
This Beauty Sports the Uncommon Churn Form with Two Top and Bottom Stripes that frame the Company Advertising in 5 Lines. The advertising is accented in the top cornters by Tulips, in the middle by a "bowtie", and on the bottom by leaves. Complete stencil in dark cobalt on a light gray background for strong contrast. Additional cobalt at the handle terminals. Stands 17 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A single hairline from the rim behind the right handle that stops at the inner ridge (1) and outer shoulder molding (1 1/2") (closeup), and a flat 1/2" flake at the base. That's it! No rim chips, stains, or restoration. Typical manufacturing imperfections including a divot in the R or Reppert where straw burned away in the firing.
