Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this rare Blue and White Salt Crock signed "BAUER" on the bottom.

    J. A. Bauer worked in Louisville, Kentucky and Los Angeles, California from the 1880's into the 20th century.

Made in the early 20th century, this beauty has a Waffle Background with Embosed "Salt" Framed by Leaves and Leaf Vining at the top.  A garland of five leaves enhances the lid.  Strong cobalt sponging with "SALT" Outlined in blue. Measures 4 1/8" tall and 5 1/2" wide.

Very Good Condition.  The base has a faint 2" hairline from the rim on the left side back by the hanger (closeup).  Othewide as made.  The lid has a couple minor nibbles on the knob and two flat chips on the top at the edge (3/8", 1/2").  Otherwise as made.

I have only had one other of these in all my years selling stoneware.  It is one of the prettiest salt crocks ever made.
