Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 1/2 Gallon Stoneware Jar made and stamped by "S. Bell & Son, Strasburg, VA."


Samuel Bell and his Son, Turner Ashby potted together in Strasburg around 1880-1890 (H. E. Comstock, The Pottery of the Shenandoah Valley Region, pp. 72-73, 74)


This beauty features a Carefully Tooled Rim, a Clear Pottery Stamp, and Three Units of Comma Vining in Manganese Glaze.  Measures 9 3/4" tall.


Very Good Condition.  A 1/4" chip on the rim, and three adjacent chips on the base (1/4", 1/2", 1") (closeup).  No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
