Item 4692
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jar made and stamped by S. JOHNSTON & SON, BEAVER, PA. This is the mark of Socrates Johnston and Son who potted in Beaver PA in the 1860's and 1870's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, p. 137).
This beauty is a superb example of Johnston's pottery and of Beaver County pottery in general. Johnston pieces are not common, but this example has a clear maker's mark and some of the best cobalt freehand decoration to be found on any pottery. The floral fills the entire front with vining and 3 huge fuchsias. Stands 11" tall.
