We are proud to offer one of the crown jewels of blue and gray molded stoneware by Whites Pottery of Utica.
Here is the Monumental Umbrella Stands by Whites that has no rival for beauty and detailed decoration.
The top feastures two broad bands. The top band sports a grapevine with grapes and the bottom band sports a fancy leaf garland with center shell. These two bands are defined by intricate borders of lines, florals, and leaves. The bottom features a single broad band with a repetition of the leaf garland with center shell which rests on six layers of intricate borders.
The main feature is a Large Center Cartouche of Each Side with a Victorian Couple. The man is coyly looking over the young lady's shoulder as she generously shares her umbrella with him. The cartouche on the back actually features the back of this couple sharing the umbrella as they walk toward a house. How creative! The sides of the stand wear a bold geometric decoration. All the embossing is accented with cobalt.
I have sold only one of these in 20 years, and this is the one. I just bought it back!
Excellent Condition. A minor 1/8" chip on the bottom edge, two 1/4" chips on the underside of the footer, and a faint crow's foot on the bottom that is surface only. That's it! No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
I seriously doublt a better one can be found!
