Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Rare 7 3/8" Butter Jar that reads, "Butter From James G. Swan, No. 96 Commercial St., Boston."
In all my 55 years of stoneware collecting, I do not remember ever seeing a salt glaze butter jar in this form.
Swan was a grocery merchant in Boston also known for documenting Native American tribes in the Northwest.
This beauty features the Jar Form and 5 Lines of Impressed Advertising with Cobalt Wash. Stands 7 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1" surface ping line inside the rim (closeup), three chips on the underside at the edge (1/4" to 3/4"), and some light staining from use.
If you collect jars, this is a very unusual addition for your collection.
