Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Rare Salt Glaze Stoneware Shaving Mug.  This is an unusual form in American stoneware, especially decorated.  Typically they were staffordshire or rockingham.


Dating around 1860 and attibuted to New York State, this beauty features a Tooled Rim, Canted Sides, Interior Soap Dispenser, and a Freehand Cobalt Decoration.  There is a triple flower in the front and a large blossom on each side.  Measures 4 1/4" tall and 5" wide across the top.


Good Condition.  The handle has come off in three pieces and been reglued (closeup 1).  A narrow 1/2" chip and adjoining 1/2" flake on the rim of the inside soap dispenser (closeup 2), two faint hairlines from the rim (2" left side, 3" front), and a 3/8" chip at the base.
