Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this rare 4 Gallon Sauerkraut Crock with Wax Sealer Rim.
New research indicates that this piece was made by Sanford Perry, most likely when he worked either at Whites pottery in Utica, NY or when he was at their satellite pottery at Binghamton, N.Y. See Curtis Rice, James River Stoneware and the S.S. Perry Connection, especially, p. 225.
Dating to the mid-19th century, this beauty features a Wide Sealer Opening and Bold Perry Floral Decoration in Brilliant Cobalt. Measures 11" tall and 11 1/4" wide across the top.
This is the only example of this form of crock that I have ever seen or had to sell.
Excellenet Condition. Five chips on the outside edge of the inner rim (1/4" to 5/8"), and some very light scattered staining. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
