Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "R. Weaver."
My research indicates that this jug is the work of Robert A. Weaver (1829-1907) who potted in Roserville, Clay Township in the 1860's to at least the 1880's. His father was John Weaver, the wagon maker, and his brother, George also worked with worked with him in the pottery business. (James L. Murphy's, Checklist of 19th-Century Bluebird Potters and Potteries in Muskingum County, Ohio, Edited by Jeff Carskadden and Richard Gartley, pp. 415-18).
This beauty features an Ovoid Form with Tooled Spout and Long Base, the Pottery Stamp, an a Freehand Tulip on the Front and Left Side. Stands 14 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Two flat flakes on the spout (1/8", 1/4"). That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
