Item 2311

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Masterful 1 Gallon Lidded Butter or Cake Crock made and signed by "R. and B. Diebboll, Washington, MI."

This is the work of Robert Diebboll and his son, Bruce. Robert founded the Pines End Pottery in 1966 and made pottery until his passing in 2011. The stoneware was made with classic forms and decorations and carried on the American tradition of salt-glaze pottery with stunning success. Diebboll Pottery is highly sought after for its artistry and quality and prices continue to rise.

This beauty features a Lidded Butter or Cake Crock Form, Pottery Stamp, and a Humingbird Extracting Nector from a Flower on Each Side.  The lid features three units of comma vining.  The decoration is applied with a combination of slip cup and brush.  The list is stamped "RB" on the underside and also bears the impressed bird that was a symbol of the pottery.

The decoration is partly inspired by the 19th the century potterries of eastern Pennsylvania and Virginia that utilized the comma vining/leaf motif.  Measures 5" tall and 9" wide.

Exceptional Condition.  The base is as made. No damage of any kind.  The lid has one minor nibble on the underside at the edge  (2 o'clock in the picture of the underside).
