Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Crock Stamped "Penn Yan."
This is most likely the work of James Mantell who potted in Penn Yan, New York from 1856-1876 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 72) .
Circa 1860, this beauty features the pottery stamp with cobalt wash and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip Decoration. The tulip has six leaves and a blossom with eight petals. Bright cobalt used throughout. Measures 9" tall and 10" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. A 1/2" chip on top of the rim, a surface-only "Y" on the back not visible inside (closeup), and a few small stains from use. No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Stone ping on the front in the making.
