Item 2222
Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jar made and stamped by "O. L. and A. K. Ballard, Burlington, VT."
This is the mark of Orrin and Alfred Ballard who ran the family pottery under this stamp from 1856-1867 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 46).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Fancy Double Floral Decoration Filling the Front from Left to Right! A stem with 5 leaves gives way to two blossoms with 4 petals and Fancy (almost Dr. Seuss-ian) Tips. Ballard decorators loved to loop the leaves and flowers in their artistry! Stands 11 1/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. Small chips and wear around the inner rim where a lid would sit, and water glaze staining inside and some outside from use. No top rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
