Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this splendid 3 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Norton & Fenton, East Bennington, VT."
This is the work of Julius Norton and his brother-in-law, Christopher Fenton who were partners in the Norton pottery from 1844-1847 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 42).
This beauty features a Tall and Narrow Form, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Rabbit Jumping Over Two Honeysuckle Blossoms! Graceful decoration in shiny cobalt blue! Stands 14 7/8" tall.
Very Good Condition. Glaze chipping inside the spout, 1/4" ping line on top of the spout, some small glaze flakes to the left of the pottery stamp and on the left side middle as shown, two chips at the base (1/2", 3/4"), and some staining from use. No outer spout chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Some drying or firing lines at the base in the making.
