Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "N. Clark & Co., Lyons."
This is the work of Nathan Clark who ran a satellite pottery in Lyons from 1822 to 1852 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 66, 73).
This beauty sports an Early Ovoid Form, Pottery Stamp, Freehand Capacity Number, and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip Executed in Strong and Shiny Cobalt Blue. Wonderful full ovoid form! Measures 14 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/4" chip on the top of the spout in the front, and three chips at the base (1/4" to 1/2"). That's it! No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Some faint surface-only firing or age lines on the spout and handle (closeups), and a couple 1" firing lines at the base in the making. Exceptionally clean.
