Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Jar made and stamped by "N. A. White & Son, Utica, N.Y."

This is a work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, American Stoneware, pp. 69-70).

Dating about 1870, this beauty features the Unusual Large 3 Gallon Jar Size, Clear and Crips Pottery Stamp,  and a Large Paddletail Bird on an Orchid Branch. The bird is large and the orchid is particularly detailed with four leaves below, a blossom, and seven buds. This is one of White's signature decorations and a perennial favorite with collectors. An abundance of rich cobalt blue. Stands 13 1/2" tall.

Excellent Condition.  A shallow 1/2" chip on the outside of the rim in the back, and a narrow 1/4" chip in the front on the bottom of the final fold of the tooled rim.   That's it!  No inner rim, front rim, or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
