Item 3873

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this monumental 5 Gallon Crock made and stamped by N. A. White & Son, Utica, N.Y.

This is a work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 69-70).

This beauty features the pottery stamp with cobalt wash and one of White's signature decorations: The Orchid Executed with a Slip Cup. This is an exceptional orchid for size, design, and brilliance of the cobalt.   Lots of lines, dots, dashes, and shading.  Gorgeous!  Measures 12 1/2" tall and 12 1/2" wide across the top.

Excellent Condition.  Two minor nibbles on the right handle (1/8", 1/4), and a narrow 1/4" flake out of the cobalt on the bottom edge of the bottom leaf on the right side.  That's it!  No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.

A real eye-popper!
