Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "N. A. White & Son, Utica, N.Y."
This is a work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 69-70).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp and one of White's Signature Decorations: The Double Orchid Executed with a Slip Cup and Brush. The orchid has 2 leaves, two blossoms, and 4 buds. The stem and the outline of the two blossoms are done with a slip cup and the rest of the decoration with a brush. Gorgeous! Measures 11" tall and 12" wide across the top.
Excellent Conditon. A 1/2" chip under the left handle, and some isolated stains from use. That's it! No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A couple minor 3/4" firing lines at the base in the making.
