Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this monumental 6 Gallon Crock made and stamped by N. A. White & Son, Utica, N.Y.
This is a work of Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the family pottery from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 69-70).
This beauty features the pottery stamp with cobalt wash and one of White's signature decorations: The Orchid Executed with a Slip Cup. This is an exceptional orchid for size, design, and brilliance of the cobalt. Lots of lines, dots, dashes, and shading. Gorgeous! Measures 14" tall and 13" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. A 1/2" chip on the outside of the rim, and a dozen and a half small glaze flecks on the left side and back. That's it! No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
A real eye-popper!
