    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this noted 5 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "Murta & Sons, Beaver, Beaver Co., PA."


    This beauty is the work of Henry Murta who, with his sons, ran a pottery in Beaver in the 1870's and 1880's.  (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, p. 137).  This exact piece is pictured in Shaltenbrand's book in his discussion of Beaver, Pennsylvania stoneware (see picture above).  


    This noted piece of stoneware has a Thick Rim, Incised Shoulder, Tall and Straight Form, and Substantial Stenciled Advertising Featuring a Large Center Rose.  Measures 14" tall and 12" wide across the top.  


    Excellent Condition.  Some light staining in places.  That's it!  No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
