    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Monumental 4 Gallon Stoneware Jug whose decoration indicates that it was made by  the Somerset Potters Works of Somerset, Massachusetts. This pottery was run by Leonard and Benjamin G. Chace from 1847-1882 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 51).


    This beauty features the Large 4 Gallon Canvas that the Decorator Used to the Fullest!  Center stage are two large blossoms poised on criss-crossing stems, and lots of squiggle work at the top.   Each blossom has six dotted and accented petals.  Stands 17 1/2" tall.


    Excellent Condition.  Four small chips on the spout (1/4" to 1/2"), a couple 1/2" chips at the base, some light staining and surface wear from use (wear in the right blossom).  No hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
