    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this uncommon 1 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "M. Fountain." 


    This is the mark of Martin Fountain (1834-1902) who potted in Newton Township (1860's) and Hopewell Township (1870's to 1880's), Ohio.  See Jeff Carskadden and Richard Gartley, eds., James L. Murphy's Checklist of 19th Century Bluebird Potters and Potteries in Muskingum County, Ohio, pp. 202-203. 


    Dating around 1870, this beauty features the Pottery Stamp and a Cobalt Leaf.  Stands 9 3/4" tall.


    Excellent Condition.  A flat 1/4" flake on the top of the spout on the left side.  That's it!  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Very clean glaze.
