Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Jug made and stamped for the merchants, "Babcock, Litner, & Co., Druggists & Grocers, Little Falls, N.Y."

The decoration indicates it was almost certainly made by Nicholas White and his sons, William and Charles, who ran the Whites family pottery in Utica, N.Y. from 1865-1886 (William Ketchum, American Stoneware, pp. 69-70).

Dating about 1870, this beauty features a Large 3 Gallon Size, Three Lines of Impressed Advertising, and a Running Bird on an Orchid Branch. The bird is large with lots of individually drawn feathers, and the orchid is particularly detailed with two leaves below, a blossom, and a stem of buds. This is one of White's signature decorations and a perennial favorite with collectors.  Stands 15 1/4" tall.

Excellent Condition.  A 1/2" chip on the right side of the spout by the handle that is partly in the making, two 1/2" chips on the underside at the edge, and some scattered light staining from use.  No hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  A couple of kiln touches on the left side, and some bubbling in the cobalt in the making.
