• Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "Lamson & Swasey, Portland, Me."


    This is the mark of Rufus Lamson and Eban Swasey who ran the pottery in Portland under this stamp from 1875-1878 ( William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 37).


    This beauty sports the maker's stamp with cobalt wash and a Gorgeous Cobalt Bird on a Branch Decoration.  Stands 14" tall.


    Excellent Condition.  An 1/8" nibble on the spout and a 3/8" chip on the back near the bottom.  That's it!  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  A firing line on the bottom about an 1" from the edge partway around that is surface only and not visible inside at all (bottom picture).   Salt drip below the bird in the making.
