Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 5 Gallon Stoneware Jar made by "L. B. Dilliner of New Geneva, PA."

This is the work of Leander Dilliner, son of S. R. Dilliner, who ran the pottery in New Geneva from 1874-1880 (Phil Schaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners  pp. 166).

This beauty features Stenciled and Freehand Decoration. From the top down are 3 stripes, the advertising surrounding a center floral and framed at the top by fancy leaves and bottom by a geometric banner,  the capacity mark flanked by wavy stripes, and two more stripes at the bottom.  Stands 15 1/2" tall.

Excellent Condition.  A 3/4" chip on the right handle, and four chips on the underside near the edge (3/8", 1/2", 1/2", 1 3/4").  That's it!  No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  A 2" surface drying line on the back bottom that wraps under 1" (closeup), and some mottling in the glaze- both in the making.

This is the best piece of Dilliner stoneware I have seen in 10 years.
