Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Ovoid Jar with Bold Floral.
The decoration and capacity number by one handle indicates it was made by the Keister Pottery of Strasburg, Virginia. The encased "2" capacity number in front of one handle was used by the pottery from 1835 to 1870 (H. E. Comstock, The Pottery of the Shenandoah Valley Regiion, pp. 285-291).
Dating around 1850, this beauty features an Ovoid Form with Tall Rim, and Bold Double Tulips on Each Side. All the cobalt is rich and shiny. Stands 11 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Eight chips outside the rim (1/8" to 1/2"), some chips on the rolled base of the Rim, and a 1/2" chip on the underside, and some staining from use. No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A salt drip on one side in the making.
