Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this marvelous 4 Gallon Stoneware Jar made and stamped by "J. Weaver."
This is the work of John Weaver who made stoneware in Beaver, Pennsylvania from the late 1840's to about 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, p. 113).
Dating around 1850, this beauty is Finely Potted with Tooled Rim and Inscribed Shoulder Band, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Three Brushed Cobalt Tulips. Two Tulips at the base of the decoration sit on a dozen leaves and support another 20 leaves that lead up to a large blossom with dotted center. Very unique. Weaver liked the larger florals. Stands 14 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1/4" chip inside the rim and two chips on the right handle (1/4", 3/4"). That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
