Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this marvelous 6 Gallon Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "J. Weaver."
This is the work of John Weaver who made stoneware in Beaver, Pennsylvania from the late 1840's to about 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, p. 113).
Dating around 1850, this beauty features an Early Ovoid Shape, Tall and Tooled Rim, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Lug Handles, and a Brushed Cobalt Garland of Leaves on Top and of Sideways Tulips on the Bottom. Lavish cobalt. Weaver rarely skimpped on the cobalt! Stands 13 3/8" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some surface wear on the tips of the handles and around the middle from use. That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
