Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Scarce 1/2 Gallon Redware Jug made and stamped by "John M. Safford."
John Safford was a pottery in Monmouth, Maine from the 1840's to the 1870's ( M. Lelyn Branin, The Early Potters and Potteries of Maine, pp. 148-57).
Dating around 1850, this little jug features a Finely Tooled Shoulder, Potter's Stamp, and a Lead Glaze over an Orange Ground. Stands 8" tall.
Very Good Condition. Glaze loss around the edge of the spout, three glaze flakes on the shoulder, and chips around the base. No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
