Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Stoneware 1 Gallon Jar made by "Jas. Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, Pa."
James Hamilton ran his pottery in Greensboro from the 1860's to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features the Company Advertising in Three Lines Surrounding a Center Floral. The light gray clay and the darker cobalt stencil make for a strong contrast and visual appeal. Stands 9 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Three small chips inside the top rim (1/8" to 3/8"), a 3/8" chip on the bottom fold of the tooled rim, and some faint staining at the base from use. No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
