Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Stoneware 1 Gallon Jar made by "Jas. Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, Pa."
James Hamilton ran his pottery in Greensboro from the 1860's to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features the Company Advertising in Three Lines Surrounding a Center Floral Garland. Complete and crisp stencil in dark cobalt. The light gray clay and the strong cobalt stencil make for a strong contrast and visual appeal. Stands 10" tall.
Very Good Condition. A few minor nibbles on the rim, a 3/8" chip above the stencil to the right, and a 2" hairline on the left side at the bottom that wraps under 2" (closeup). No outer rim or base chips, stains, or restoration. A kiln touch above the stencil in the making.
