Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Gorgeous 3 Gallon Decorated Jar made by "James Hamilton & Co., Manufacturers, Greensboro, Pa."
James Hamilton ran his pottery in Greensboro from the 1860's to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
This beauty features Top to Bottom Decoration with Rich Cobalt on a Light Gray Clay. From the top down are two broad stripes, the capacity number whose tail has become a flower, the company advertising surrounding a large emblem and framed on the top by tulips and on the bottom by another stripe. Very attractive design. Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some tiny pecks in the glaze below the rim in the upper right, and some very light staining. That's it! No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
