Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Decorated Churn made by "Jas. Hamilton & Co., Greensboro, Pa."
James Hamilton ran his pottery in Greensboro from the 1860's to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
This beauty features a Churn Form with Inner Rim for a Lid, Two Stripes at the Top and One at the Bottom, and the Company Advertising Surrounding a Floral and Underscored with a Freehand Capacity Number Flanked by Leaves. Additional cobalt accents at the handle terminals. Stands 13 1/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 1/4" chip inside the rim, A 2 1/4" hairline at the base that wraps under 1" (closeup), and some very light staining in places from use. No outer rim or base chips, cracks, or restoration.
