Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Stunning 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT.
This is the mark of Julius Norton, his cousin Edward Norton, and his son, Luman who worked together in the family pottery from 1859-1861 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Large Floral Bouquet Decoration in Bright Bennington Cobalt Blue. The bouquet includes a center blossom surrounded by buds and dots and tied together at the bottom by a bow. The blue is as good as it gets! Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 3/8" chip inside the spout, two small chips outside the spout (1/4", 3/8"), a 3 1/2" surface craze line below the spout to the near the bouquet that shows when wet, and some scattered light staining. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
