Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this special 2 Gallon Decorated Preserve Jar made and stamped by "J. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT."
This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Classic Norton Floral Bouquet Executed with a Slip Cup Using Dark and Shiny Cobalt. The large center blossom is exquisite and the cobalt captivating. Stands 11 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A few minor 1/4" or less chips on the inner lid-seating ring, a 1/4" chip inside the rim, a 1/2" sliver chip on the left handle, and light staining near the base. No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
