    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this fantastic 4 Gallon Stoneware Jar made and stamped by "J. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT."


    This is the mark of Julius Norton, his cousin Edward Norton, and his son, Luman who worked together in the family pottery from 1859-1861 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).


    This beauty sports a Large Size, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Double Bird Decoration in Bright Bennington Cobalt Blue.  The artist created this vision using a slip cup and a skilled hand.  Stands 14 3/4" tall.  Comes with a form-fitting wooden lid. 


    Excellent Condition. Three minor chips inside (1/8' to 1/4") and a 1/4" flake outside the rim, a 1" hairline confined to the rim on the front (closeup 1), a 2" hairline from the rim on the back visible only on the rim inside (closeup 2), and light staining from use.  No outer rim or base chips, cracks, or restoration.  Stone ping on the right side in the making.
