Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this gorgeous 2 Gallon Stoneware Crock made and stamped by "J. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Julius Norton, his cousin Edward Norton, and his son, Luman who worked together in the family pottery from 1859-1861 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 41-44).
This beauty sports the pottery stamp with cobalt wash and a Large, Bright, and Fancy Floral in Bennington Cobalt Blue. About as much floral as you can get on a 2 gallon crock! Wow! Measures 9 1/4" tall and 10" wide across the top.
You would be hard pressed to find a better two gallon Norton floral crock.
Excellent Condition. Three chips on the right handle (1/8" to 3/8"), and some light staining below that handle toward the back. That's it! No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Small stone ping in the making toward the bottom of the bouquet.
