Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "J. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT."

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Stunninig 4 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "J. Norton & Co., Bennington, VT."

This is the work of Julius Norton, his son Luman, and his cousin Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1859-1861 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42, 44).

This beauty features the pottery stamp with cobalt wash, and a Floral Bouquet Filling the Entire Front with Shiny Cobalt.  The floral has a central blossom surrounded by buds, leaves, tendrils and dots-- all tied together at the base with a bow.  The decoration is detailed and executed with a slip cup in brilliant cobalt as is expected from Bennington potters at this time.  Gorgeous!  Measures 9"tall and 10" wide across the top.

Very Good Condition.  A 1" chip inside and a corresponding crow's foot outside on the back, a 3/8" chip on the right handle, and some staining from use.  No rim or base chips or restoration.

A Norton crock with a floral from the golden age of Bennington pottery.
