Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful and uncommon 1 Gallon Jar made by "J. Eneix, New Geneva, PA. "
This is the mark of James Eneix who made stoneware in New Geneva for the brief period of 1874-1876 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 165).
This beauty features the Company Name and Address Stenciled in a Fancy Garland with Center Tobacco Leaf. Most unusual is a stenciled branch of a flowering berry bush above the stencil. I have never seen that on a small jar before. Stands 10 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 1 1/2" chip on the underside at the edge in the back.
That's it! No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
Eneix stoneware is not commonly seen due to the brief period of manufacture.
