    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 1/2 Gallon Jar made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."   


    This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 42).  


    This beauty features the pottery stamp with cobalt wash, and a Classic Norton Floral with Leaves at the Base, Two Blossoms in the Middle, and a Butterfly-Like Top!  Strong and shiny cobalt in the making.  Stands 10 1/8" tall.


    Very Good Conditon.  Traces of water glass staining inside. Wear and minor chips around the interior seating ring and inside the top rim.  A 1/4" chip and short ping line on the left handle and a 1/4" flake on the right handle. A 1/4" flake at the base.  No hairlines, cracks, outer stains, or restoration.
