    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 1/2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."   


    This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42).  


    This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Classic Thistle Decoration in Brilliant Cobalt!  A thistle resting on a stem and leaves is drawn in detail with a slip cup.  Stands 11 1/4" tall. 


    Good Condition.  Three in-body vertical hairlines: 4" below the decoration and two 5" on the left side.  Some staining from use.  No spout or base chips or restoration.
