Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 gallon Jug made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton, who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 42).
This beauty features the pottery stamp with cobalt wash, and a Classic Floral Decoration with Large Center Flower Surrounded by Foliage. The light clay provides a delightful contrast with the bright and shiny cobalt! Precision artistry with no blurring of the cobalt. Stands 15 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Two shallow 1/4" flakes and a 1/4" ping line on the spout, a narrow 1/4" chip on the left shoulder, some minor wear around the middle, and a flat 3/4" chip on the underside at the edge. That's it! No hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
A large, classic Norton floral in bold cobalt to give your collection some dazzle.
