Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Preserve Jar made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42).
This beauty features the pottery stamp with cobalt wash, and a Classic Floral Decoration with Large Center Blossoms Surrounded by Foliage. The light clay provides a delightful contrast with the bright and shiny cobalt! Stands 11 1/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. Minor chips around the inner seating ring where a lid would sit, two chips inside the rim (3/8", narrow 1"), a 1" hairline at the rim (closeup), and a narrow 3/4" chip on the let handle. No outer rim or base chips, body hairlines, stains, or restoration.
A classic Norton floral in bold cobalt to give your collection some dazzle!
