Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 42).
This beauty features the pottery stamp with cobalt wash, and a Classic Norton Floral with Leaves at the Base, Two Blossoms in the Middle, and a Butterfly on Top!. Strong and shiny cobalt in the making. Stands 12 3/4" tall.
Excellent Conditon. A shallow 1/2" chip inside the spout and some modest wear and small stains around the middle. That's it! No outer spout or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
You will need sunglasses for the shine off this one!
